Why I Never Went To University

As I finished my last year of high school, there was one question I heard over and over: "Which university are you going to?" The truth is, I never planned on going to university. _____1_____ Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in education. However, I just felt that traditional university education wasn't for me.

One of the main reasons is that I've always been more practical. _____2_____ I enjoyed hands-on projects, whether it was fixing a bicycle or creating a website. The thought of spending four years in classrooms didn't appeal to me.

Instead of university, I opted for an apprenticeship in a local IT company. _____3_____ This gave me a chance to gain practical skills and experience in the real world. At the same time, I was earning a salary, which was a bonus.

Furthermore, I noticed that many successful people in my field didn't necessarily have a degree. _____4_____ This showed me that a university degree wasn't the only pathway to success.

Finally, I wanted to avoid student debt. Many of my friends who went to university are now struggling with loan payments. _____5_____ Instead, I was able to save money during my apprenticeship and buy my first home much earlier than my peers.

Looking back, I have no regrets about my decision. I've managed to build a successful career without a university degree. My experience shows that there are different paths to success, and each person must choose the one that suits them best.

A. People often looked at me strangely when I told them I wasn't going to university.
