Song Lyricsusing songs in the esl classroomIt's great to use songs in the class, if only to do something a little different. But beyond using them solely to give your students some 'light relief', there are many other ways songs can be used in ESL classrooms to consolidate what students have already learnt. Have a song to request or an idea of how to use a song? Let us know by going to the request section. if you know what you're after...Quick Jump to:
We also have a separate section for children's songs. Here are some ideas for the use of songs in the ESL class:
With some of the songs, I have included a couple of suggestions as to how they can be used but everyone will find something different in each song worth doing. Of course, you can always just do the songs with your students for the sheer pleasure of it... Idea from Sarah, Toronto:
I like to have students listen first without the lyrics. I ask them to write down all words and phrases that they hear and share them with the class. Then we listen again with the lyrics and go over vocab. It is interesting to provide lyrics with several small mistakes and have students see if they can hear where they are. requestsDo you have any requests for songs that you would like to see on this page? Do you have any ideas for how the songs that are already here could be best used in the class? Are there any songs here that simply don't work in the class. We would appreciate some feedback on this area of the site as we would then better be able to make it relevant for the other ESL teachers. Whatever you think, write it here and send it!! Fill in this short form to make a request for a song. We cannot guarantee that every request will be fulfilled, but we will try our best.
The songs here are divided into nine alphabetical sections which is organised on a song title basis, not on artist name basis. |
