C1 Advanced Exam (CAE): Writing Test 5

Part One
You must answer this question. Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style on the separate answer sheet.
1. You attended a debate at the town hall which discussed how new government money for the town should be spent. You have made the notes below:
How should the new government money be spent locally?
- Reduce local taxes by 1%
- More sports facilities
- New books and teachers for schools
Some opinions expressed during the debate:
"We pay too much tax, a tax cut helps everyone!"
"Having a healthier local population is more important than money."
"I don't play sports, what's in this for me?"
Write an essay, discussing two of the proposals in your notes. You should explain which proposal would help the town most, giving reasons in support of your answer.
You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the debate, but you should use your own words as far as possible.
Part Two
Write an answer to one of the questions 2-4 in this part. Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style on the separate answer sheet.
2. The local tourist board has asked you to review a local vegetarian restaurant for its website.
Discuss in the review:
- the cost
- the service
- the menu
- the food
- the atmosphere and decor

3. You were the only witness to a recent traffic accident. There were no injuries but a lot of disagreement who had caused the accident. You were asked to make a statement to the local police and you are now going to write a letter to a friend about this incident. You should mention:
- what happened before the accident
- the accident
- what happened then with the people involved
- who you think caused the accident

4. You are taking a politics course at a local college. Your next assignment is to carry out a survey of other students in the college to find out about their political views and how they vote.
You are asked to produce a report and show:
- how they get their political news
- what party they would vote for
- if they always vote at elections
- what determines how they vote
