Overview
What is it? Choose one writing task from three options.
Word count: 220-260 words
Time: About 45 minutes recommended
Task types: Letter/email, proposal, report, or review
Types of Writing Tasks
- Letter/Email: Formal or informal writing responding to a situation, may include narrative elements or factual information
- Proposal: Suggestions supported by factual information to persuade a specific reader, often for a peer group or supervisor
- Report: Factual writing for a superior or peer group, evaluating situations or making recommendations
- Review: Critical evaluation of a book, magazine, film or service, considering its suitability for a particular purpose
How to Approach
- Read all three tasks carefully before choosing
- Consider the target reader - this affects your style and tone
- Plan your structure based on the task type
- Include all required functions (describing, evaluating, suggesting, etc.)
- Use language appropriate for your chosen task type
