Writing Abroad
Sophie
I've been writing to my pen-pal Emilie in France for a year now. She lives in a small village near Paris. Writing in French is tough for me, but I love learning about her culture. Emilie and I are the same age and often chat about what we love reading. My friends find it a bit odd but interesting. I'm planning a trip to France next summer and I can't wait to finally meet Emilie. Receiving her letters always gets me more excited about the trip.

For the past six months, I've been in touch with my pen-pal Lucas from Brazil. He lives is Rio. It's amazing to learn about the differences between our countries. Lucas tells me all about Brazilian festivals and what they eat there, which I love sharing with my friends at school. I find writing letters in Portuguese relaxing and it really helps improve my language skills. I'm hoping to have Lucas visit the UK one day, that would be great.

I started writing to Aiko in Japan two years ago. I'm really into Japanese art, and Aiko often sends me her drawings. Her letters are full of cool facts about Japanese traditions, which I find fascinating. It's fun to compare our daily lives, even though I sometimes struggle to express myself in Japanese. Aiko's helpful replies always encourage me. We both dream about exploring each other's countries one day.
