A2 Key - Writing Practice

Cambridge English (KET)

On this page, you will find example writing tests to help you prepare for the Writing part of the 'Reading & Writing' paper in the A2 Key exam.

There are two parts to the Writing section of the 'Reading & Writing' paper.

In Part 6, you write a short email or note of at least 25 words. You'll be given three specific points that you must include in your writing. This task is worth 15 marks.

In Part 7, you'll see three pictures that tell a story. Your task is to write a story of at least 35 words describing what happens in these pictures. This task is also worth 15 marks.

Exam Tip!

1. Always include all three points from the task in your email or note (Part 6).

2. Write at least 25 words for Part 6, but don't write too much - about 35 words is perfect.

3. Start and end your email/note in a normal way. For example: "Dear Tom" and "See you soon, Anna" or "Hi Mrs Jones" and "Best wishes, Pedro".

Exam Tip!

1. Look carefully at all three pictures before you start writing your story (Part 7).

2. Write what happens in each picture and connect them using words like "first", "then", "after that" and "finally".

3. Write at least 35 words for your story, but remember that quality is more important than length.

Exam Tip!

1. Check your spelling carefully, especially common words you use a lot.

2. Use simple, clear language that you know well - don't try to use difficult words you're not sure about.

3. Leave a few minutes at the end to read through your work and check for mistakes.
