Part One
You must answer this question. Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style on the separate answer sheet.
1. You attended a meeting at the town hall to discuss which businesses should be given tax incentives to come and open in the town. You have made the notes below:
Which businesses should be given tax incentives to open here?
- New supermarket
- Heavy industry
- Modern IT companies
Some opinions expressed during the meeting:
"Do we have people who can work in IT companies?"
"Let's not give incentives to those who would pollute!"
"What we don't need is yet another shop!"
Write an essay, discussing two of the companies in your notes. You should explain which company would help the local economy most, giving reasons in support of your answer.
You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the meeting, but you should use your own words as far as possible.

Write an answer to one of the questions 2-4 in this part. Write your answer in 220-260 words in an appropriate style on the separate answer sheet.
2. Your colleagues in a local company are upset because of the behaviour of the manager. He is often rude to employees and turns up late to the office. He has unrealistic expectations of his staff and dresses too informally.
You will write an email to a friend discussing the problems you have at work with particular reference to the manager.

3. You are studying at a local university. The music committee would like to organise a small music festival for the early summer period and you would like to send a proposal on this to the university management.
The proposal should focus on what types of bands will be invited, how the university facilities can be employed, why the festival would be good for the university students. There should also be mention of how possible problems can be avoided.
