Diplomacy - Answer Sheet

International business negotiations often require a high level of diplomacy. This means maintaining a calm and respectful manner, even when the discussions become difficult. It is important to establish trust with your counterpart and to approach the negotiation with a clear understanding of both parties' goals. In cases where tensions are high, it may be beneficial to seek the assistance of a(n) mediator to help mediate the situation. Additionally, successful negotiators often rely on careful planning and strategy, using their leverage to secure the best possible terms without alienating the other side.

A key skill in diplomacy is knowing when to make a small concession to keep the conversation moving forward. However, if both sides are too rigid, the negotiation may end in a(n) deadlock, which benefits no one. A(n) facilitator is often called in when negotiations reach a deadlock. In some cases, the two parties may exchange a(n) counteroffer, which can help break the stalemate and move the negotiation forward. Without these skills, reaching a(n) agreement can be challenging.
