To practice 'will' and 'going to' for decisions about the future. Students circulate around the class telling the other students what their intentions are for the future. But their class colleagues have a few surprises for them..!
Students who are coming up with the problems should choose one of the two possibilities and the second only if the first student has a good answer for the first problem.
This is a mingle activity. All the class are told to stand up and they move around the class asking random students what they are going to do for the weekend, for example. The flashcards below are folded so that the student being asked the question can see the "Plan" side only. Once the plan is revealed, the asking student then comes up with the "Problem" and this in turn elicits the use of "will" by the other student:
Example Exchange:
A: What are you doing this weekend?
B: I am going to visit my uncle in Turkey.
A: But there are no planes going to Turkey this week!
B: Oh! Well, I'll visit him next week.
A: But your uncle is on holiday for a month.
B: Oh! Well, I'll visit my aunt in Tunisia then!

PROBLEM: It is raining! It's closed….today is Sunday. |

PLAN: Go to the cinema tonight. |
PROBLEM: All your friends are going to the pub. There is only 'Alien 9' on at the cinema. |

PLAN: Make a big cake for John's birthday tonight. |
PROBLEM: There isn't any flour or milk. It's not John's birthday until next month. |

PLAN: Buy a car for your next birthday. |
PROBLEM: I can't drive. I only like Ferraris. |
|
PLAN: Visit my grandmother in hospital. |
PROBLEM: She doesn't want to see anyone yet. She left hospital this morning. |

PLAN: Give the dog a bath tomorrow. |
PROBLEM: We don't have the special shampoo. We don't have a dog! |
|
PLAN: Go to the football match together on Saturday. |
PROBLEM: The weather will be terrible on Saturday. I hate football. |

PROBLEM: He/She went to live in Australia this morning! He/She is already married! |
