Pre-teaching should concentrate on the following:
Structure: should, other modals, comparatives, futures
Vocabulary: traffic and transport, protesting.
Functions: Deciding, Agreeing, Disagreeing, Arguing a Point
Students are put into small groups of two, maximum three students. The two or three students are given different roles and the visual aids to help them in their discussions.
Situation:
The decision to build a new road across old woodland has divided local opinion and caused quite a row. Some people say it will save a lot of time and prevent the town centre from being too congested - others complain of the damage to the environment and the cost. Look at these advantages and disadvantages of the road plan and discuss with your partner whether you think it's a good idea or not.
