It is a good idea to ask some questions about the characters to help 'set the scene' before the students start writing.
-What is the relationship between these people?
-How old are they?
-What are they wearing?
-What time of the day is it?
-How does everyone feel at the end of the story?
-etc, etc
If you want the students to do more writing than just a few speech bubbles, you could always set them a full write up of the story for homework.
