My Life In A Lighthouse
I've always been attracted to the sea, so when I saw an advertisement for a lighthouse keeper, I knew I had to apply. The job was to maintain a lighthouse on a small island off the coast of Scotland. _____1_____ To my surprise, they hired me, and soon I was on my way to my new home.
The lighthouse itself is over a hundred years old, and it's full of history. Many wild storms over the decades would have sunk many ships if the lighthouse hadn't been there warning them away.
Every day, I'm responsible for ensuring that the light shines brightly, warning ships away from the dangerous rocks. _____2_____ The work can be hard, but it's very rewarding.
Living on a small island can be lonely, but I don't mind. I have the sea birds for company, and I enjoy the peace and quiet. I spend my days taking care of the lighthouse and my nights watching the stars. _____3_____ It's a simple life, but a fulfilling one.
One of the biggest challenges of living here is the weather. It can be very unpredictable and sometimes quite extreme. But I've learned to adapt and be prepared for anything. _____4_____ And despite the occasional storm, I wouldn't trade this life for anything. If I weren't here, I'd be sitting in a boring office doing a job to pay the bills. I know which I prefer!
Being a lighthouse keeper is not just a job, it's a way of life. It's hard work and it can be lonely, but the rewards are worth it. I get to live in a place of beauty and peace, and every day I have the satisfaction of knowing that I'm helping to keep sailors safe. _____5_____
