The teacher models the sentence 'What is your name?' in a variety of ways and students have to choose the most appropriate word from this sheet. Good for focusing students' attention on the importance of intonation.
Past Simple Endings
Answer Sheet
Students practice the endings of regular past tense verbs and have to classify them into three groups.
Sounds in the Picture Game.
There are two pictures in this file but obviously you can use whatever pictures you want depending on the vocabulary involved. One student or group finds a particular phoneme in their picture: /i:/ for 'tree' and challenges the other student or team to find the same phoneme in their picture. Points are awarded for successful challenges or if the other student chooses a word that doesn't have that phoneme asked for.

To focus student attention on word stress within a sentence. Which word would be stressed?

Rhyming Pair Game.
Card turning game where students must match words that rhyme. A student turning over 'mouse' and 'house' would thus win a point.
Pronunciation Of Third Person Present Simple
The pronunciation of third person "s" at present simple is on one of the early problems that elementary students face with three different phonemes possible. In this activity, students put verbs into one of three possible columns depending on the pronunciation of the word ending.
