Close To The ShopsTarget Language: There is/there are, describing houses.Description: A real estate agent/client dialogue is used to present the grammar in context and students go on to do an information gap exercise and role play another agent/client conversation before describing their own houses.

Chinese LawnsTarget Language: There is/are, reading, places of interest in a town.Description: Students talk about sites of interest in their hometown before reading an article about an unusual property development in China. Some focus on there is/there are for describing towns and their amenities.

Pre-Intermediate
Possibility Of A StudyTarget Language: Discussing positive/negative points of a property, comparative adjective forms.Description: At the start of the lesson, there is some focus on real estate advertising and property vocabulary in general. The listening is a couple being shown around a house by a real estate agent and the grammatical focus is on comparative and superlative structures. To finish with, students work on selling their own hypothetical house!

Do You Have Any Pets?Target Language: Looking for a housemate, interviewing people.Description: After discussing house sharing and living with other people, the class is divided into two groups: those looking for a house and those looking for someone to share a house with.

The Room MatesTarget Language: Should/shouldn't, Living together and "house rules".Description: Students talk about problems that arise when living with other people. The listening is a couple of friends discussing some problems they are having - with the apartment owner laying down a few do's and dont's! Some grammatical focus on using should/shouldn't to give polite orders.

The Home FortTarget Language: Home security vocabulary, phrasal verbs and modal verbs.Description: The theme of this lesson is home security and how we can be safer in our homes. After a brainstorm warmer, the pre-listening focuses on phrasal verbs which the students will hear. There is also some work done with modal verbs that are used in the listening. The lesson finishes by getting students to use modal verbs to give advice about home security.

Having Everything DoneTarget Language: The causative, doing work on a property.Description: The lesson opens by asking students to think about things they do themselves - and things they pay others to do. After some dictionary work, the listening comprehension exercises are based on a conversation between two friends, one of whom has inherited a property in poor condition.
