Young Learners
On The BeachTarget Language: Prepositions of place, can/can't, how many.Description: A fun beach-based lesson where students practice "I can see" and "how many" to describe a beach, then draw pictures from a description. A lot of practice given with prepositions of place.

A reading follows that looks at two musical sisters. After a reading comprehension exercise, the grammar focus is on "can/can't" for ability. A freer speaking exercise closes the lesson.

Focus on using "should" for giving advice in the context of relationship problems. Some work on relationship vocabulary and optional writing activity.

Elisa PiliTarget Language: Have to \ don't have to \ mustn't.Description: The story of an Italian girl and her work are used to describe obligation and lack of obligation. The American version uses "can't do something" whereas the UK version concentrates more on "mustn't do something". Take your pick!

The Broken LaptopTarget Language: Use of should/shouldn't have for the past.Description: Doug returns his broken laptop computer to the store and finds out there are some things he should and shouldn't have done. Good computer related vocabulary.

Hurricane HerbertTarget Language: Weather vocabulary, modal verbs of obligation and permission.Description: The first part of the lesson is an exercise on some more advanced weather vocabulary. Students then read a newspaper article giving some advice dealing with hurricanes. The second half of the lesson focuses on the modal verb usage in the newspaper article and the lesson finishes with a fun "Hurricane Facts" game.

The Room MatesTarget Language: Should/shouldn't, Living together and "house rules".Description: Students talk about problems that arise when living with other people. The listening is a couple of friends discussing some problems they are having - with the apartment owner laying down a few do's and dont's! Some grammatical focus on using should/shouldn't to give polite orders.

The Home FortTarget Language: Home security vocabulary, phrasal verbs and modal verbs.Description: The theme of this lesson is home security and how we can be safer in our homes. After a brainstorm warmer, the pre-listening focuses on phrasal verbs which the students will hear. There is also some work done with modal verbs that are used in the listening. The lesson finishes by getting students to use modal verbs to give advice about home security.
